Core Components of the EDS
These shared visual styles and components create harmonious experiences across Nedbank products.
- Foundations are our core visual styles. Learn how to apply color, elevation, spacing, iconography, and typography to your designs.
- Components are reusable UI elements designed for specific interactions or needs. Explore our component documentation for design usage guides and visual examples.
- Patterns show common flows and solutions composed from our foundations and components.
- Content has writing guidelines for error messages and other common UI copy.
Guiding principles
The Elements Design System is built on core principles that foster a cohesive, scalable, and efficient design framework. It champions a shared language and a library of reusable components, ensuring consistency across all products. Our guiding principles also emphasise accessibility and inclusivity, making sure that every design is not only usable but also enjoyable for all users.
Consistency
Achieving a user-friendly product starts with consistency in design. By allowing users to apply their existing knowledge, we reduce the learning curve and enhance the overall experience for users and designers.
Authenticity
Authenticity in our product design fosters trust and loyalty among users. It ensures that our products reflect the brand's values and mission, creating a genuine connection with our users.
Simplicity
A simple design is often a more effective one. It focuses on the core functionalities of the product, making it more intuitive and easier to use, which can lead to higher user satisfaction and adoption rates.
Accessibility
Designing products with accessibility in mind ensures that all potential users, including those with disabilities, can use the product effectively. This inclusivity not only broadens the user base but also complies with legal standards and ethical practices.
Our design principles are a crucial guide for creating successful digital products. Adhering to these principles can lead to products that are not only functional and user-friendly but also inclusive and resonant with the target audience.
We maintain assets
We maintain the design kits in Figma. These kits contain components and elements as well as wireframes and guidance to aid designers.
Elements DS supports multiple code implementations. These reflect the production-level design libraries. The frameworks are listed below with their primary maintainers:
You can still build components by following our guidelines for other frameworks.
Design patterns are harvested from products built within our ecosystem. These standardised and included become part of the design system. Teams can use these well-defined patterns in their work and contribute patterns back to the system.
